Today's ride was another difficult one, with climbs nearly as long and steep as the previous day. Our bent (as in recum-bent) muscles were feeling the pain today, so we backed off a little on the hills, and many, many people passed us.

This was another day of lousy rest stops. The first one at mile 11.8 was serving only water. The second one, at mile 17.5, had a nice selection of rotten banana quarters. At lunch, which was very good, I overheard a cyclist making a point of telling Alan Turnbull how good lunch was. Alan was relieved that the guy wasn't complaining about the rest stops, about which he had heard his fill that day.

At the rotten banana stop we spent some time discussing recumbents with a guy we had seen on a Tennessee ride years before. He was with his recumbent friend, who had ridden the Adventure Cycling TransAmerica route on his Tour Easy a while back. The TransAm guy showed us his Easy Reacher under-seat pannier rack.

The Tennessee recumbent guy, who we've seen ride many recumbent models in the past, said he was anxious to pick up his latest version, the Lightfoot Ranger, a long wheelbase frame with two 26-inch wheels, that he said looks like a truck and can climb a telephone pole with it's low gears.
